The Guglhupf – a delicious ring cake ready-to-eat in an hour

The famous Guglhupf – my children used to love it! When they were small, the boys always wanted to help me. That’s ok, making a ring cake is child’s play, really. So together, we used to set about the task of making a cake. Even today, the boys are looking forward to a piece of Guglhupf, but in general it’s me who prepares it.

Already when choosing the ingredients you can hardly go wrong. Whatever you like can go on the shopping list. I always get four eggs, 250 g of icing sugar (or 125 g of brown cane sugar), 200 g of fine flour (or 200 g of spelt flour), 100 g of ground nuts or almonds, 1/8 l of cold milk, 1/8 l of cooking oil, one package of vanilla sugar, ½ package of baking powder.

Back at home, all the ingredients go into a bowl and are kneaded with a mixer for seven minutes. Grease and flour a cake tin and fill it with the dough. Bake at 170° C for 50 minutes. And voilà: there’s your ring cake fresh from the oven! Let it cool off and then coat it with chocolate or lemon glaze or just strew it with icing sugar.

Right now that I am so busy, it is nice to have such an ‘express recipe’ to squeeze in between my job, the housework, and my leisure time activities. Have fun trying out the recipe yourself!
